Finally I got the courage to go solo.

Growing up around a group and hanging out as a group is a norm in India, and when you travel alone, you are considered a loser, even parents don’t support that. I got too comfortable in the groups.

I see the trend is changing nowadays with the next generation.

After college days, everyone gets stuck in their own life.

Everyday meetings turn into months, and now, though we connect via social media and mobile calls, we rarely meet.

Movies, lunches, and sleepovers happen sometimes.

So at one point, I was stuck in my career loop. Every day went so fast that I hardly remember what happened except my office days.

Once I read on the internet about solo trips, solo lunches, and movies. It was intriguing. I saw many youngsters follow it, and it gave them a fresh perspective on life, and they didn’t need anyone to be happy doing the stuff they wanted to do.

I never click photos as well, I never take solo selfies, over the last 3 years all my photos have been in a group, I was so conscious.

In 2022, I booked a movie ticket to a movie and went. I felt nervous for the first time without a group, and standing alone, I felt like all the eyes were on me. I booked a corner seat, but to my hell, a gentleman approached me and said he wanted that seat as they had a baby with them, and his seat was in the middle. What a coincidence for the first time 😅.

I was so nervous during the movie, and after the premiere, I rushed out and reached home. It was a different but new experience.

In 2023, I visited a restaurant on a weekend and had my favorite pizza. Boy, I hope that sounds easy. It was challenging. Sitting at my table, I never lifted my head, and I focused on the food, but my legs were dancing in anxiety.

But I calmed myself and took myself an hour to sit and eat.

In 2024, I visited another restaurant for a Sunday morning breakfast. This time was peaceful. I overlooked everyone in the restaurant, smiled at the waiter, conversed with a stranger outside, thanked the waiter for his service with a tip, and left.

Now I’m planning my first solo trip that is going to be thrilling and fun, but still, let’s see how it goes.

If things go well, hoping for more solo visits in the city.

Have you taken a solo trip ? How was your experience ?
