Job search can be tough, but with the right strategies you can find your way,

There are some mistakes that can cost you. You need to know the mistakes you are making only then you will be able to correct yourself and change your strategy to do more effectively.

There is no use of simply doing the tasks repetitively and waiting for results. Because a job search can drain your energy and put you in mental stress easily. Once you are aware of these mistakes you will be ready to do it more effectively.

1.Relying only on Job Postings:

Most job seekers think the online job postings are the only way a company advertises their vacancy. No !. Every organization when there is a vacant position looks for referrals that are the best method of finding good talent than waiting posting on job portals and waiting for applications.

Online job postings are the least priority for organizations. So you need to look for other methods for job search.

2. Mailing Resumes:

One of the common mistakes is mailing your resume to the wrong person or sending your resume to the recruiter asking for a job.

While sending a resume make sure it is the email address of the recruiter and while emailing your resume explain about yourself and how you will be a prospective asset for their organization in the email. That is the way a recruiter will at least open your email.

Most “Hey looking for a job” emails end up in trash.

3. Not Tapping the Hidden Job Market

Searching only for companies with openings is not the correct job hunting method. The best jobs are rarely listed for vacancies and as said they are filled by referrals mostly. Hidden job market is where the most recruitment happens.

4. Bad Applications:

Resume is a tool that gets you the interview, it needs to be perfect with the required information that an employer expects, if not it will get rejected easily. Having a generic resume will not work. You need to customize your resume according to the job you’re applying for.

Consider the help of professionals who are in the field to help you out in making your resume perfect.

5. Not Networking:

When we say most recruitment happens in the hidden market with referrals, you should be networking with potential employers and building a professional relationship with them to get a referral from them.

Most job seekers go the wrong way, the important thing is to listen without just keeping on asking for jobs. Get in touch with potential employers who can help you out.

6. Open to all kinds of work:

When you plan to start a job search you must need to have a clear job role in your mind and work towards it rather than applying for 3 roles in the same company. This makes the recruiter think you are not confident and you lose your opportunity.

Fix what role you would like to grow in and work towards it. Note your career goals and start.

7. No Strategy:

Waking up, scrolling job postings, applying repeatedly and waiting for results. This is a wrong method. You need to do a lot of homework and understand about the organization before applying for a position.

Simply applying will not fetch you results. You need to strategize your search for results.

8. Letting others take control:

Listening to others for suggestions, waiting for others to hand you the interview offer and going by the trends is not going to work out. Only you know your strengths, capacity, goals, vision not others. So only you know what works best for you. If you want to land an interview, you need to work towards it. Money is essential but a sustainable career is even more important.

Conclusion

Here are the top 8 mistakes most job seekers make doing their job search, take away for this discussion is, if you are doing any of these, change it for an effective job search.
